Another Year, Some Great New Dolls

Posted on

2015 looks to be shaping up as a great year for us doll lovers, with the new ranges by Kidz n Cats, Gotz and the rest being unveiled in catalogues and also at the Nuremburg Toy Fair this past weekend. Now I’m not lucky enough to attend the fair, but Maxine of My Doll Best Friend was there and has a great report in the blog with images of some of the lovely new faces and ideas we can look forward to: I’m really excited about the new Kidz n Cats face mould, their new boy doll Robert, and also the new Finouche range of dolls from Sylvia Natterer.

Here’s a couple of images to whet your appetite, then do go and enjoy Maxines post!

Paola Reina Fashion

I’m piggybacking somewhat on a post by Maxine over at her blog for My Doll Best Friend, because she showcased some of the many gorgeous outfits made by Spanish doll company Paola Reina for the Soy Tu range of dolls, which fit other 18″ standing dolls perfectly. And I couldn’t resist at least one outfit..

Maru in a Paola Reina dress

Here’s Maru modelling the Paola Reina “lilac floral dress set” which consists of a lovely cotton dress in shades of lilac and pink, with lilac cap sleeves, a lilac ribbon trim at the hemline, and a crossover bodice detail. Tied at the waist with organza ribbon which is gathered into a rosette at the front, its worn over lilac leggings and comes with a matching hair band that ties with more lilac ribbon.

As you can see it fits very nicely and is such a great choice for the hot summer weather, lilac is one of my favourite colours for dolls clothes and it makes a change from the usual range of pink you usually see.

I’m pleased with the quality of the outfit, each piece is cut out and stitched well and the fabric is good quality. The fit on Maru is excellent, I’m sure the dress will look equally great on Katy and the others also!

I will definitely be getting more clothes from this range.

My Doll Best Friend has the lilac outfit featured, along with other Paola Reina clothing and the Soy Tu dolls range along with other sized dolls and suitable clothing for same.

Having reported about the latest Kidz n Cats Wunschpuppe here I’m pleased to say the dolls are finally available in various combinations of the three eye and hair colours possible. I think my favourite is the blonde hair with green eye version..

Las Reinas Mei

This lovely little lady is Mei, one of the gorgeous dolls in the Las Reinas (Queens) range by Spanish doll company Paola Reina.

Each doll in the range is 60cm tall, so a great deal larger than the Kidz n Cats, Gotz or indeed the Paola Reina Soy Tu range (which I posted about here). All Las Reinas dolls have articulating arms, legs, heads, and joints; their knees and elbows bend and their wrists and feet can turn. They are made from vanilla scented vinyl with rooted vinyl hair and have large eyes with lashes, which do not close.

Being so much larger, the dolls cannot share clothes with the 50cm/18″ dolls, but luckily the company produce a limited number of outfits sized for the dolls, all of which look to be of high quality.

Other Las Reinas dolls include Sandra:

And Lidia..

There’s a comprehensive review of one of the dolls, Marta, including photos of her with American Girl and Karito Kids dolls for size comparisons and a wealth of detail about the jointing and other aspects of these dolls over at The Toy Box Philosopher.

Las Reinas dolls and outfits are currently available in the UK at My Doll Best Friend.

Silver & Sparkle

A Trio of Nellie Rose Frocks

Santa didn’t bring me any new dolls, but I’ve some gorgeous frocks to show off – the girls are delighted! Nothing says a special occasion like a fancy sparkly frock and Nellie Rose has come up trumps again with these creations.

Ariane in a Sparkly Purple Frock

This is the first of the two lilac dresses, I liked them so much I couldn’t pick between them. This is lilac satin in the bodice and skirt, with a layer of sparkly net over the skirt area, and more net beneath to give the dress body, I love the embroidery detail on the bodice, and the matching hair clip is flamboyant enough to work more as a fascinator than a hair clip. Nellie Rose always has an eye for detail and this dress is made with her usual skill and eye for design – all her outfits are one offs but there’s always something worth looking at on her website. The blue satin slippers here are from My Doll Best Friend.

Grace in a Sparkly Yellow Frock

As soon as I saw this yellow creation I knew it was just made for Grace, she’s positively glowing in this colour and it works so well against her skin tone. Again, this is a satin bodice and skirt with layered netting underneath and a layer of net with added sparkles over the skirt, set off with the big white net bow with diamante centre at the waist – it came with a matching hair bow but the clip wasn’t strong enough to stay securely in Grace’s mass of hair. She’s wearing beige tights by 123 Mulberry Street and a pair of gold sandals, and just looks adorable.

Helene in a Lilac Sparkly Frock

If there are purple outfits around you can be sure Helene is first in the queue to wear them. This one is a different shade to Ariane’s dress, though similar in design, but the layer of net over the satin skirt has many more sparkles which look like scattered stars. I like the way the brocade detail at the neck lifts the plain colour, and the satin flower detail at the waist is also nifty. The dress came with a hair clip matching the flowers but Helene’s hair is too fine for such things. The purple shoes are from the Design a Friend range. Yay Nellie Rose for three fabulous frocks.

Katy in A Silver Frock

Nellie Rose isn’t the only one capable of producing sparkly frocks – and I added this silver creation to my wishlist almost as soon as it was listed over at My Doll Best Friend. It has a satin bodice with ruched detailing, and a satin skirt with an overlay of silver lacey stuff picked out with silvery spirals, and netting beneath for body. The waist band has sparkling sequins for extra effect. The dress is sleeveless and comes with a black knitted bolero which really enhances the whole design, Katy looks most elegant here. I’ve teamed the outfit with silver shoes which aren’t showing too well in the photo, but are also from My Doll Best Friend.

They’re just plain slippers but they really shine and are a perfect match for the frock.

Detail of Katy's silver frock

Here’s a closer look at the silver spirals on the skirt, I think this is one of my favourite outfits thus far for any of the dolls.

Katy & Ariane in Sparkly Frocks

Belles of the ball! Katy’s dress is equally stunning without the bolero, and the two colours complement each other nicely – lets hear it for satin and sparkles!

Costume Party (Countdown to Christmas)

Posted on

Another in my series of seasonal suggestion posts..

Christmas (and New Year), the perfect time for parties and dressing up. And there are plenty of options out there for the dolls to strut their stuff and turn themselves into historical characters or indulge in some fantasy.

Silver party dress with jacket

For example, here’s a fab sparkly silver party dress and bolero that happens to be on my list from Santa this year, very elegant with pretty layered skirts and a glittery waistband, from My Doll Best Friend here; the shoes and headband are available separately.

Flamenco dress

Or go a bit more vibrant and be ready for dancing with this eye-catching flamenco two piece also from My Doll Best Friend, the floral and red chiffon tutu with red satin bow detail is paired with a red jersey camisole, here.

"Nifty '50s" outfit

Here’s a cute blast from the past, the Nifty 50’s outfit from The Dolls House consists of a black polo shirt, pink felt roiund skirt with tulle underneath for body, a belt with buckle and a matching pink chiffon scarf, ideal for the dance floor! Here it is.

Flapper costume

The Charleston more your thing? Let the dolls turn back time to the early 20th century with this gorgeous flapper outfit, the fringed sparkly dress is set off by long pink gloves, feather and diamente head dress, necklace and a tote bag (which I don’t think quite matches…). Another gem from My Doll Best Friend at this link.

Victorian dress

Maybe the 1920s are too recent, lets go back further in time to when ladies wore more elaborate gowns, like this pretty purple and white Victorian style dress from Petalina, I especially like the little violet roses and that flowered collar. Find it here.

Marie Antionette gown

Ah, why not zoom another hundred years or so back to pre-Revolutionary France, where ladies of the court wore impossible complex gowns with layers of the finest fabrics imaginable. This Marie Antoinette dress conjures up the era beautifully, with a rich pink satin overgown trimmed with gold and enveloping the  ruffled ivory satin layers beneath, with gold stitching detail and little pink satin roses to the bodice.  Another delight from Petalina, here.

Butterfly Fairy costume

History is all very well, but pure fantasy has no limits, any doll could float prettily round the room as a butterfly fairy in shades of pink and lilac: the satin and velvet bodice complements the layers of lilac and white netting that form the skirt, decorated with tiny sparkly sequins shaped like butterflies. And of course a fairy must have wings, made of lilac net and organza that simply velcro on to the back of the dress.  Find your fairy garb here.

Not enough of the pretty dresses? Don’t forget the many prom dresses from Frilly Lily I posted about here.

Not enough history? Then the A Girl for All Time dolls and outfits, currently with a Tudor, Victorian and 1940s doll and clothing might fit the bill – details in this post.
